Our Mission Statement<

“Special Education in the Coatesville Area School District is a collaborative effort involving the school, family and community in developing diversified programming to all special education students in the least restrictive environment.”

The Coatesville Area School District provides special education services for all eligible students in grades K-12.  Under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, or “IDEA,” children qualify for special education and related services if they have one or more of the following disabilities and as a result need such services:

-  Autism, including Pervasive Developmental Disorders
-  Deaf-Blindness  
-  Emotional Disturbance
-  Hearing Impairments, including Deafness
-  Intellectual Disability
-  Multiple Disabilities
-  Orthopedic Impairments or Physical Disabilities
-  Other Health Impairment
-  Specific Learning Disabilities
-  Speech or Language Impairments
-  Traumatic Brain Injury
-  Visual Impairments, including Blindness

The school district offers many special education programs in each building.  Students who require extensive services and have more significant needs receive their education at an Approved Private School or through the Chester County Intermediate Unit.  Anyone with questions about special education services should call the Special Education Department at 610-466-2400 x82431
