LIBRARY SCHEDULE and DUE DATES
Students are scheduled
for a 45 minute Library Class period once during the 6-day cycle (5-day for
Kindergarten). The first 15 minutes is a book exchange, the second 30 minutes
is library skills instruction time.
Please call
610-383-3775 if you do not know your child's Library Class Day.
The LIBRARY CLASS
DAY is the DATE
DUE
-
Students are
encouraged to check in and out their books on their DUE DATE which is
always their scheduled LIBRARY CLASS DAY in the 6-day cycle.
-
Books can be
returned in between Library Classes.
-
KH Library is open
each day for a Morning Book Exchange from 8:55 a.m.-9:10 a.m. for students
to independently exchange books and return overdue books.
-
Students
should bring their books back for return or renewal on their Library Day
regardless of when the book was selected.
-
With their
teacher's approval, students may come to the library to do research
projects.
-
There are no
overdue fines, however, students may not check out books if borrowed books
are still at home.

DAMAGE
OR LOST BOOKS
Students may not get another book until borrowed books are
returned.
KH staff and students are
asked to pay the replacement cost of a book lost or damaged. This replacement
money purchases another book for others to read. Later, if you find and return
a 'paid' book, the library will refund the money. If a damaged book is paid
for, the student receives the damaged book. Accidents happen and we need to
show our students they can turn to their parents for help.
If a student has a long
overdue book at the end of the year, extra steps will be taken by the librarian
and the principal to get the book(s) returned so others can use them.
Note:
Please DO NOT remove BAR CODES from back cover of library
books. They cost $1.00 each.

RESPECTING
LIBRARIES
Good
Citizenship in
and toward Libraries is taught and expected at KH. Good Library Citizenship is
your child's key to having the right to use libraries and access free
information. However, if proper citizenship is not shown, privileges in a
library can be taken away. This is why our district gives grades for Library.
Any special area grade including Library grades can keep a child off the Honor
Roll.
Overdue / Lost / Damaged Books
If all students in a class return all
library books on library day, they earn a paper ice cream scoop. If a class
earns 5 ice cream scoops, they win a free ice cream coupon redeemable at the
cafeteria. If a student forgets a book, students get a reminder slip to give to
their parents.
Students who forget their library books read magazines during
Book Exchange and do not select another book until the overdue book(s) is
returned. Parents receive overdue slips, letters and are called to help students
avoid not being able to participate in book exchanges.
Note: If a student is overdue for more than 3 times, a "comment"
appears on the child's report card and the Effort grade is lowered.
Behavior: If your students has concerns about Library Class,
please feel free to call, 610-383-3775 or email goubae@coatesville,k12.pa.us.
Students not following the Library and School Rules receive a request to make a
better choice and an explanation, then time out if needed. Students still having
difficulty, receive a misconduct that is sent to the principal and a phone call
to their parents explaining the problem and asking for support. Uncontrolled or
dangerous actions result in immediate dismissal from the Library.
Note: Parents and students
need to understand that the Effort grade on the report card
reflects a student's library citizenship.

Library Aides: |
|
Many thanks to the
Library's Student Helper hard work.
Each year, a few
grade 5 students volunteer to help in the library. Their help assures
that students and teachers get the resources they need to learn and that the
library operates efficiently.
