What is the PRO Team? People Reaching Out. The Pro Team is a group of teachers, administrators, guidance counselors and the school nurse. They are trained to identify and seek appropriate assistance for at-risk students who have been referred to the team. Student participation is voluntary and serves as a support to families. What is the Purpose of the PRO Team ? The team seeks to identify and intervene with students who are exhibiting signs of at-risk behaviors. The goal is to intervene at an early stage before a problem becomes a more serious issue. As the team is a helping group within the school, parental involvement is encouraged. What Kinds of Problems Might be Referred to the Team ? The focus of the PRO Team is suicide, depression, alcohol, drug abuse, and other mental health issues. Signs of a problem in these areas may include the following: drastic grade changes, attendance concerns, changes in behavior, appearance or friends, or additional signs of at-risk behavior. How are Students Referred to the Team ? In-school referral forms are available to all teachers and students. Parents may call any member of the team. Self-referrals may be made. Who May Refer to the Team ? Parents, administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, school nurse, staff or students. How Will the Team Function ? When a referral is made, the team will gather information and determine whether the referral is appropriate. After initiating contact with the parent, members of the team may meet with the student and/or parent so that together they might evaluate the situation. If deemed appropriate, it may be recommended that the family seek to have a professional evaluation by an outside agency for the child. Depending on the results of this evaluation, appropriate referrals and recommendations may be made. All information given to the team in no way affects disciplinary records or school standing.
