Principal's Corner
Dear Scott Middle
School Families:
Spring has arrived
and what great weather we have had so far!!! With great weather, our
students like to wear summer type clothing. Parents check your
child's clothing attire prior to them leaving the house. The
students have been told to wear appropriate shorts, tops and shoes
for school. If you are not sure what is appropriate, please check
the red Secondary code of conduct for more information.
Our PSSA testing
for all grades is complete! I noticed our students working extremely
hard as I walked through the building during PSSA testing!!! I am
confident that once the results are in, all of our hard work and
effort will be reflected in our scores! Our eighth grade students
still have writing and science to complete which begins April 16-27th
for both tests!!! Eighth grade parents please encourage your son or
daughter to get plenty rest, come to school on time and are
motivated to do well on this section of tests. In appreciation of
the hard work everyone put forth, we will have a special day for
each grade level!
Speaking of helping
our students, I would like to help parents understand the
development of their child during this important period of their
life! Beginning in September we are planning to have monthly
informational educational parent seminar series. The seminar series
would be presented by different experts with solid "how-to"
information on topics of concern to middle school parents. The
sessions will be in an informal and interactive setting. Please
complete the attached survey on topic presentations that you may be
interested in attending. If there is not a topic listed that you
feel is important, please list it on the "other topic" line. We
need your input in order for this series to be successful.
It is hard to
believe that fourth marking period will have started once you
receive this issue of the Connection. Some of you will have had a
parent conference about your child's progress to make sure he/she
are on the right track for the end of the year. If you did not have
a conference with any of your child's teachers and feel the need to
have one, please do not hesitate to contact them to make sure your
child is on the right track academically. Let's continue to work
together to ensure your child's continued academic success and
provide support for improvement if he or she is struggling.
Encourage your child to finish the school year strong by completing
homework assignments, preparing for tests and quizzes, etc.
Together we can work to ensure your child's successful
completion of the 2011-2012 school year.
As educators we are
also concerned about our students exploring different helpful and
productive avenues after school as well as during the summer. The
Coatesville Youth Initiative has a wonderful summer Youth Service
Corps (CSYSC) program for students between the ages of 14-18 years
old. This is an
8
week summer of service opportunity. The CSYSC offers work
experience,
provides our young people with an opportunity to "serve" their
community and meet a need, teaches valuable life and leadership
skills, and also provides them with a summer income.
Applications will
be available Monday, April 2nd in our Scott Middle School
Office and the deadline will be Friday, April 27th by 4
pm. All
students are encouraged to attend one of the Information Sessions
with a parent/guardian. These sessions will take place:
Monday,
April 16th, 6:30 pm;
Brandywine Center, 744
East
Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320
And
Wednesday, April 18th, 6:30 pm;
Caln
Township Building,
253
Municipal Building, Thorndale, PA 19372
If your son or daughter is between
the ages of 14 -18, please encourage them to obtain an application
and possibly become a part of an exciting summer of service
opportunity.
Sincerely,
Dr. Denise Ray,
Proud Principal of
Scott Middle School
